Mr. Ben Wesley Hege

Mr. Ben Wesley Hege, age 82 of the Dry Creek Community in Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at a Rome hospital.

Mr. Hege was born in Winston-Salem, NC on August 4, 1939, son of the late REck Shaffon Hege, Sr. and Velnia Lessie Everhart Hege.  He was a member of the Fisher’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of the Subligna Baptist Church.  Mr. Hege served in the United States Navy, retiring as a Hull Technician First Class, after 21 years of service.  He was a member of the Tunnel Hill Lodge #202, the Alhambra Shrine Club, where he was a member of the Hillbilly Unit, and was a member of the VFW Post 112 in Dalton. He loved working on cars, going to cruise-ins and spending time with his family.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hege was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Brannock Hege on November 1, 2020; sisters, Gladys Zimmerman and Louise Pierce; and a brother, Reck Shaffon Hege, Jr.

Mr. Hege is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Robbin and Mark Scoggins, Christine and Jim Hayes and Wendy and Mike Wade; a brother and sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Hege; grandchildren, Kevin Scoggins, Kyle Scoggins, Lori Hayes, and Autumn Wade; great grandchildren, Charlotte Scoggins, Reed Scoggins,  Kayleigh Scoggins and Sawyer Scoggins; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hege will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. in the Fisher’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. David Flake, Dr. Charles Bishop and Mr. Joe Langham officiating.  Interment will follow in the Fisher’s Chapel Cemetery with Full Military Honors and Tunnel Hill Lodge #202 in charge of Masonic Graveside Rites.

Pallbearers will be Mark Scoggins, Jim Hayes, Mike Wade, Kevin Scoggins, Kyle Scoggins and Larry Van Fossen.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Brotherhood of Fishers Chapel.

Mr. Hege will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  On Saturday, Mr. Hege will be carried to the church where he will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Fishers Chapel United Methodist Church, 7335 Dry Creek Road, Summerville, GA  30747 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
