On Saturday, February 15, 2025, our father, Danny Lane Helms, age 65 of the Ridgeway Community, Trion, rejoined his Savior and loving parents and grandparents in their heavenly home.
He was born in Trion, Georgia on November 25, 1959, son of the late James William “Buddy” Helms and Peggy Dawn Henderson Helms. He had a happy and unique childhood, surrounded by family, living next door to his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, with whom he spent many days playing outside their grandparents' old homeplace. He was a lifelong member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from Trion High School in 1977, where he was well liked by his classmates and a member of the 1974 State Championship football team. He served a brief stint in the US Army, from which he was Honorably Discharged in 1978. He worked for Southern Bell, which later became AT&T, retiring as the Special Services Network Manager in 2009.
Anyone that has met him will know that he is friendly and kind to all, greeting everyone with a smile. He has had many hobbies over the years, most notably hunting, fishing, and physical fitness. We’ve been blessed to have a very close family and family has always been very important to our Dad, much more important than any hobby or interest. He was blessed with incredible talents and wisdom in so many areas, the single most amazing and humble man we ever have or will ever know. We have always been able to count on him to fix the problem, know the answer, or simply to love us through a trying time. Of all of his talents, hobbies, and personal attributes, his greatest priority of all has been being the absolute most kind, generous, and loving father to us, his children.
Our father is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Courtney Helms Drummond and Ben Drummond; his son and daughter-in-law Colby Helms and Callie Helms; his sister and brother-in-law, Pamela Helms and Marc Hogg; mother of his children, Janna Helms; special friend, Traci Edwards; grandchildren, Tripp, Rowen, Maisie Drummond and Lilly and Luka Helms.
In accordance with his wishes, we, his children, and other close family will be holding a happy and light hearted private gathering about happy memories among ourselves at a later date.
Daddy, it’s impossible to put what you mean to us in a short paragraph, or even in words at all. We love you beyond measure and will see you again very soon. We carry you with us always.
Your Loving Children.
