Mr. David Harmon Petitt, age 91 of Summerville, Georgia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Petitt was born in Gore, Georgia on August 8, 1933, son of the late Troy Leon Petitt and Gaudie Mae Serritt Petitt. He was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for over 50 years, and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy. He was also a member of the Trion Lodge #160 F&AM and the Summerville Lions Club. Mr. Petitt was the proprietor of Jim’s Auto Supply in Pennville, and was a former co-owner of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, and a spirited follower of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. In addition to his parents, Mr. Petitt was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Petitt; two sisters, Vera Jeanette Thompson and Martha Bonnie Lee Higgins; and two brothers, Durward L. Petitt and John Wiley “Bob” Petitt.
Mr. Petitt is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wanda Petitt; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lorri “Itsy” Petitt; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Jane Petitt; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte Ann and Leon Dooley; grandchildren, Will Tate(David Ritchie) of Atlanta, Amy Epps(Russell) of LaGrange and Lori Anna Tate(Mike Ficquett) of Appalachicola; two great grandchildren, Rowdie Epps and Augustus “Gus” Epps;; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Petitt will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Clayton, Dr. Paul Mason, Dr. Sean Wegener and Rev. Barry Peppers officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Petitt’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the past and present deacons of the Summerville First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M and from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour at the Coffman Funeral Home.
