Edwin "Ed" Dobbs Elsberry

Mr. Edwin Dobbs "Ed" Elsberry, age 82 of Berry Ridge, Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his residence.  He was born November 15, 1929, son of the late Glen and Annie Kellett Elsberry.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War from 1954-1956.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 and was retired from Karastan-Bigelow in 1992.  He was employed with Farmers and Merchants Bank from 1992-1998.  Mr. Elsberry was Baptist by faith and was ordained as a Deacon in April 1962. Mr. Elsberry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Edwin and an infant daughter, Jennie; brothers, Sewell Glen, R. C., James, Bob, and Charles; and  sister, Annie Ruth Sweatman. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Barbara T. Elsberry; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Cindi Elsberry; grandsons, Trent, Brady, and Kasen Elsberry; brother, Bill Elsberry;  sisters, Sara Duke and Naomi Faye Ramsey; brother-in-law, Eddie Ray Teague;  sisters-in-law, Shirley Hughes and Linda Carroll; extended family, Bill and Joanna Gilbert, Steven and Mel Gilbert. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey and  Mr.Bill Gilbert officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Elsberry will lie-in-state Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Summerville-Trion Optimist Club or Rotary Club Scholarship Funds. Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Bo Bryan, Steven Gilbert, Brad Johnson, Bobby Groce, Scott Tucker, Wallace Martin, Chuck Petitt, and Scottie Buice.  Honorary Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Farmer and Merchants Bank employees, Abbie Jones, Emily Vaughn, and John Adams
