Mr. Gene Boutwell

November 13, 1944 — April 23, 2021

Mr. Ovie Eugene “Gene” Boutwell, age 76 of Summerville, Georgia, formerly of Tallapoosa, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 at the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mr. Boutwell was born in Laurel Hill, Florida on November 13, 1944, son of the late Ovie Boutwell and Velma Rosalyn Ekstrom Boutwell.  He enjoyed drinking coffee, cracking jokes, playing cards and playing the piano.  He retired from Crete Courier Company, where he was OTR truck driver.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Boutwell was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Carol Boutwell on January 14, 2021.

Mr. Boutwell is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Amy Boutwell, Gary and Carolyn Boutwell and Glen and Jolene Boutwell; daughter and son-in-law, Cristy and Rodney Lewis; sisters, Edna Long and Jeanette Tyner; half brother, Nathan Boutwell; his “favorite child”, Champ; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment Services will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in the Hollywood City Cemetery in Tallapoosa, Georgia.

Pallbearers will be Greg Boutwell, Glen Boutwell, Brandon Garrett, Trevor Durham, J.B. Trammel and Kevin Houston.

Mr. Boutwell will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
