George Charles Smith

Mr. George Charles Merle Smith age 72 of 2595 County Road 133, Gaylesville, Ala. passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 in Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, Ala. He was born January 28, 1940 in Fort Payne, Ala. son of the late George & Josephine Higgins Smith. He was retired from Best Mfg. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents;  daughter: Clara Day Smith; brother: Jerry Wayne Smith; 4 sisters: Frances Merita Hunter, Faye Smith, Charlotte Hunter & Salomi Ray. Survivors include his wife: Nancy Louise Smith, Lyerly, Ga.; son & daughter-in-law: Michael Benjamin & Jessica Cabe, Lyerly; son: David Houston Cabe, Lyerly; daughter: Loretta Sue Dukes, Trion; several nieces & nephews. Graveside & interment services will be conducted Wednesday, July 18, 2012  from the graveside of Lyerly Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home. Pallbearers are requested to meet at the Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and include the following: Jason Shields, Robert Battles, Michael Bumbalough, Jimmy Nixon, Jason Nixon and Jimmy Long. Erwin-Petitt Funeral has charge of the funeral arrangements for George Charles Smith who passed away on Sunday.
