Mr. James Wendell Snow

James Wendell Snow, age 62, of Trion, GA, passed away October 16, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Snow was born in Trion, GA, on May 14, 1955, son of Nona Laura Ray Snow and the late Thomas William Snow, Sr. He was a 1973 graduate of Trion High School and attended Coosa Technical College. James was a retired electrical line engineer having worked at Alstom Turbomachines, Mohawk, Bigelow Sanford, Image Industries, and Engineering Manager at Mattex, USA. Mr. Snow served many years as a school board member for the Trion City Schools. He also served for 49 years with the Boy Scouts of America in many roles, including Asst. Scoutmaster of Troop 101 in Trion and Summerville's Troop 7. James was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, earned the Silver Beaver Award in 1989, District Merit Award, OA Founder's Award, and the Chattooga District Distinguished Scouting Service Award in 2015. He was also Wood Badge trained and served on the first Wood Badge staff at Camp Sidney Dew. Mr. Snow attended numerous summer camps at Camp Sidney Dew, NOACs, Conclaves, Jamborees, and Philmont Scout Ranch. James was an active member of the Trion United Methodist Church holding many administrative and service positions over the years. He also served as the chairperson of the Camp Hamby Board of Directors for many years. Mr. Snow was preceded in death by his father, Thomas William Snow, Sr. in 1965, a brother, Thomas William Snow, Jr., in 2013, and a grandson Brody Blackmon in 2007. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Teresa Helms Snow; one daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Jeremy Blackmon of Chickamauga, GA; his mother, Nona Laura Snow of Summerville; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Raybon Williams of Gaylesville, AL; sister-in-law Lynn Snow of Pensacola, FL., three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kent and Barbara Snow of Ringgold, GA, David and Avis Snow of Subligna, GA, Robin and Anna Snow of Pensacola, FL; and four grandchildren, Courtney Blackmon, Kristen Blackmon, Emily Blackmon, and Braxton Blackmon of Chickamauga, GA. Three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survived. Visitation will be held at the Coffman Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00-9:00 PM and celebration services will be held at the Trion United Methodist Church on Thursday at 3:00 PM with Rev. Skip Mitchell and Rev. David Autry officiating. Active pallbearers will be nephews Tom Snow, Ashley Snow, Chris Snow, James David Helms, Gil Williams, Adam Snow, Chris Sullens, and Chais Helms. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hope Sunday School class of the Trion UMC and all Boy Scout associates of Mr. Snow. Interment will be in West Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give to the Trion United Methodist Church, the Northwest Georgia Council of the BSA, or to Camp Hamby.
