Joe Franklin Hood, 79, was born February 12, 1933, in a cabin in Chickamauga State Park which is in Walker County, GA where his father, Paul T. Hood was the park superintendent and guard. Joe was called home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2012 at home. He was preceded in death by his parents: Effie Jo and Paul Hood, Brothers Clinton, Aulden and Roy, and sister Claudia Brooks. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Jenette Biddy Hood of Acworth, GA; Faithful son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Paula Hood of Atlanta, GA. Joe was the proudest Grandfather "Pop - Pop" of Remington Parker Hood who was the light of his life. Joe is also survived by special friends, Tony and Cathy Blevins plus several nieces and nephews, including Diane, Jo Ann, Marlene, Eddie, Charles and their families. Joe's lifelong love of golf began at an early age in Trion, GA where his family lived when his father passed away when Joe was only nine years old. Joe spent a lot of years on the golf course there working and caddying and being able to learn the game from Tommy Bean, the father of Pro Golfer, Andy Bean. Joe was an avid golfer all his life up to his illness, winning many tournaments and awards for his golf game. Joe graduated from Trion High School and attended the University of Georgia off campus. He was a bulldog from Trion Bulldogs and then the Georgia Bulldogs. After taking early retirement from Lockheed-Georgia where Joe was an Auditor, Joe and his family ran a successful trophy and awards business for thirteen years at Hood's corner in Armurchee, GA. The Hood's then resided in Sebring, FL for seventeen years in retirement, returning to Georgia after the diagnosis of ALS in 2010. Another great love of Joe's was singing Gospel Music. He and wife, Jenette both being brought up in Gospel music, sang with choirs and special groups through the years of their marriage. Joe was an outstanding person much beloved by family and friends, and all will miss him. The family will be receiving friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home at 2950 Cobb Parkway 30152 in Kennesaw, GA on Saturday, July 14, 2012 between the hours of 4 and 8 pm. The family will also receive friends on Sunday, July 15 from 12pm - 2pm at Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home, 12855 Hwy 27 Summerville, GA 30747. Funeral service will begin at 2pm from the Chapel of Erwin-Pettit on Sunday and burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens in Summerville.
