Joyce Ruth Cordell

Mrs. Joyce Ruth Cordell, age 90, a resident of the Dry Valley Community in Trion, Georgia passed away on Tuesday morning, June 23, 2026 in a Rome hospital surrounded by family.

Joyce was born on August 10, 1935 to the late Oscar Grady Woods and Dixie Leah Stowe Woods. Mrs. Cordell was a lifelong resident of Chattooga County where she was a homemaker and wonderful mother. She was of the Baptist faith attending church at the Dry Valley Baptist Church. Among her many accomplishments in life, she was a wonderful mother in raising three daughters, she enjoyed flowers and was particularly fond of her humming birds. She enjoyed camping and camped as long as she could, and wished that she could go “just one more time”. In addition to all of her family she was pretty fond of her nine grandchildren, nineteen great grand children and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cordell was preceded in death by a brother the late Franklin Woods.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Neal Cordell; daughters, Connie Harris (Donald), Cathy Ragan (Daryl), Karen Pena (Byron); brothers, Roy Woods and Rickey Woods. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Chris Harris(Stephanie), Michele Brown(Eric), Starr Thomas(Jeff), Nate Ragan, Natalie Williams(Jason), Rickey “Danny” Brown, Derek Brown(Lizzy), Caleb Pena(Emily), Destiny Pena, nineteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Cordell will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Gary Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until the funeral hour on the day of the service.

Pallbearers will be Chris Harris, Derek Brown, Caleb Pena, Conley Harris, Eric Brown, Jason Williams and Cordell Harris.
