Mrs. Kathryn "Kat" McWhorter, age 82 of 178 Cherry Street, Trion, GA passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. McWhorter was born March 6, 1929 in Menlo, GA. She was retired from the Georgia Rug Mill and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Trion, GA. Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her husband, Ray McWhorter; father and mother, William F. Johnson, Sr. and Mable Johnson; and brother, Joe Johnson. Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dale Scoggins of Summerville, GA; grandsons, Todd and Stacy Barnes of Ringgold, GA and Mike and Stacey Scoggins of Rome, GA; and granddaughter, Shelley and Adam Hawkins of Summerville, Ga; brothers, Jr. and Joyce Johnson of Rome, GA, Willie and Sue Johnson of Summerville, GA, Ron and Sylvia Johnson of Lyerly, GA; brother-in-laws, Lamar and Sally McWhorter of Rome, GA, Lewis and Myrtle McWhorter of Trion, GA, and Roland Fleming of Austell, GA; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey, Rev. Larry Scoggins, and Rev. Charles Bishop officiating. Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McWhorter will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Saturday, September 10, 2011 where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Todd Barnes, Mike Scoggins, Adam Hawkins, Sammy Fleming, Patrick McWhorter, LeBron McWhorter, and Dexter Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the residents of The Suites at Oakview.
