Mr. Lamar "Perk" Perkins

Mr. Alfred Lamar "Perk" Perkins, age 78, of the Pennville Community, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Perkins was born in Summerville, Georgia on September 3, 1938, son of the late Marvin Grady Perkins, Sr. and Daisy D. Wofford Perkins. He was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. Perkins was veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. While enlisted in the Air Force, he was a member of the 604th Air Force Band. Following his military service, Mr. Perkins worked as an insurance agent, as well as a produce clerk for several grocery stores, most recently with the Piggly Wiggly in Armuchee. He was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church, the 7 Romans, which later became the Gospel Brass, for more than 20 years; was a member of the Chattooga County Senior Center, and a past member of the Chattooga Masonic Lodge. Mr. Perkins also served as Choir Director for several area churches. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids, and playing pool at the Senior Center. In addition to his parents, Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Hall; a brother, Charles Perkins; sisters, Hellon Perkins and Bobbie Perkins West; sisters-in-law, Violet Perkins and Anne Perkins; a brother-in-law, Randy Allen, a son-in-law, Stephen Hardaker; nephew, Christopher Allen and niece, Brenda Tudor. Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife, Barbara Parker Perkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Steve Blevins, Faye and Terry Shores and Kaye and Lamar Hall; sister, Doris Allen; brothers and sister-in-law, Marvin G. Perkins, Jr. and George and Linda Perkins, Sr.; brother-in-law, Paul West; grandchildren, Corey (Hannah) Shores, Kayla Hall and Seth Hall; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of extended family. Funeral Services for Mr. Perkins will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Welcome Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Shores, Rev. Owen "Bud" Davis, and Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force. Pallbearers will be Steve Blevins, Lamar Hall, Corey Shores, Seth Hall, Jeff Blansit, Terry Hampton, Randy Staton, Terry West, Paul West, III, Marvin West, Ernie Perkins and Clay Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Welcome Hill Baptist Church and Members of the Chattooga County Senior Center. Mr. Perkins will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. On Thursday, Mr. Perkins will be carried to the Welcome Hill Baptist Church where he will lie in state from 12:00 Noon until the funeral Hour. Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Welcome Hill Baptist Church.
