Mrs. Rose Ray Carter

August 14, 1930 — April 5, 2016

Mrs. Rose Ray Carter, age 85 of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Carter was born in Poinsett, Arkansas on August 14, 1930, youngest daughter of the late Henry Howell and Lester Ann Smith Howell. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed as a seamstress in several area glove mills. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a son, Terry Ray; father of her children, Dewey C. "Shine" Ray; husband, Louis Carter; sisters, Zora Lockhart and Flora Smith; brothers, Carlos Howell, I.J. Howell, and Denver Howell. Mrs. Carter is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Ray of Menlo and Chris and Angie Ray of Armuchee; grandchildren, Ashton Ray and Caroline Ray, both of Armuchee; and a number of nieces, nephews and Cousins. Funeral Services for Mrs. Carter will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Patterson and Rev. Waydell Howell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Tudor, Randy Pauley, Ashton Ray, Larry Maddux, Claude Carter, Ronald Carter and Warren Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be the McDonald's Coffee Club, F-Hall of Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and George Coffia. Mrs. Carter will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.
