Rev. Sidney Lester Dooley

Rev. Sidney Lester Dooley, age 96 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at his residence. Rev. Dooley was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 11, 1921, the last remaining child of the late Wilburn "Will" Dooley and Bessie Smith Dooley. He was a minister of the Gospel, having faithfully served as church pastor for over 76 years. Among the churches he pastored were: Calvary Baptist Church, Sardis Baptist Church, Perennial Springs Baptist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Bryant, AL, Bryant Baptist Church, Bryant, Al and Chelsea Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Rev. Dooley was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Christopher Dooley; daughter, Mary Dooley Atkins; sons, Alvin Dooley and Randy Dooley; 2 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; and several brothers and sisters. Rev. Dooley is survived by his wife, Betty Dooley; sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Charlotte Dooley, Ft. Payne, Terry and Beth Dooley, Lafayette, Danny and Sandra Dooley, Vilanow; Milton "Junior" and Mary Lou Smith, Pennville, and Harrison and Darlene Smith, Rome; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Steve Blalock, Perennial Springs Community and Tonya and Danny Pierce, Summerville; special friends, Robert and Lucille Wood, David and Cathy Edgeman and Velmond Beech; 23 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Rev. Dooley will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Waydell Howell and Bro. Robert Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Dooley. Will Dooley, Corey Dooley, Michael Dooley, Mitch Maynard and Kevin Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be all Rev. Dooley's close friends. Mr. Dooley will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
