Mr. Thomas Edward "Tommy" Hutchens

Mr. Thomas Edward “Tommy” Hutchens, age 79 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Hutchens was born in Rome, Georgia on February 23, 1942, son of the late Clarence Edward Hutchens and Annie Louise Weeks Hutchens.  He was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter.  Mr. Hutchens was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Army.  While in the service, he earned a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Commendation Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge.  He loved working on old trucks and enjoyed building practically anything.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchens was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Marie Hutchins; sister, Barbara Sue Hess and brothers, John David Hutchens and Jerry Eugene Hutchens.

Mr. Hutchens is survived by his wife, Diana Lynn Hutchens; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Renee and Horace Thompson, Demple Louise and Richard Dixon, April Diane and Eddie Denham, Billie Joe and Terry Cargle and Barbie Lynn and Bruce Niederhuth; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Edward “Doe Doe” and Carole Hutchens, Thomas Eugene “Lil Tommy” and Jamie Hutchens and Michael David and Stephanie Norris; sister, JoAnn McTaggart; brothers, William Clarence “Bill” Hutchens and Fred Wayne “Freddy” Hutchens; 35 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 3 fur babies and a number nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hutchens will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Myles Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include “Lil” Tommy Hutchens, “Doe Doe” Tommy Hutchens, Michael Norris, Danny Ray Williams, Daniel Lee Dooley and Michael Edward Chandler Norris.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men of Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church.

Mr. Hutchen will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  On Saturday, Mr. Hutchens will be carried to the church where he will lie in state from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
