Mr. Vernon G. Gregory

Mr. Vernon G. Gregory, age 79, of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Gregory was born in Athens, Tennessee on July 1, 1936, son of the late Charles F. Gregory and Josephine "Josie" Moore Gregory. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army, and prior to retirement was self employed in the Construction and Pulpwood Industry. Mr. Gregory loved to go to Flea Markets, and could be seen regularly at Trade Day. He also liked to farm, garden, work with wood and build things in his workshop. IN addition to his parents, Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother. Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife, Elsie Jean Gregory; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Randy Keith; two grandchildren, Daniel (Cathy) Nelms and Casey Nelms; two great grandchildren, Emma Nelms and Riley Nelms; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Gregory will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating. Interment will follow in the Lafayette City Cemetery. Mr. Gregory will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.
