Mr. Winford Lee "Buz" Busby

April 18, 1934 — February 4, 2022

Mr. Winford Lee “Buz” Busby, age 87 of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Winthrop Court Assisted Living Center.

Mr. Busby was born in Henegar, Alabama on April 18, 1934, son of the late D.W. Busby and Ernie Stella Sims Busby.  He attended the Connect City Church and was retired from General Electric, and was a member of the Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338.  Mr. Busby was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War Era.  He was instrumental in the formation of the Chattooga High School Softball Team and enjoyed coaching many different Recreation League Teams, including the girls softball Teams, Ping Pong Teams and Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball Teams, as well as many church league softball teams.  He enjoyed going to as many sporting events as he could, regardless of what sport was being played.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Busby was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Elem Busby; sons, Winford Lee Busby, Jr., Charles Busby and David Busby; and a brother, Gordon Busby.

Mr. Busby is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Ron Pope; granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Abraham Tessin; great grandchildren, Paige Tessin, Olivia Tessin and Daniel Stowe; sister-in-law, Patsy “Pat” Busby; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Busby will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jared Pickard officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with the Brown-Wright Post 12 of The American Legion Honor Guard from Rockmart in charge of rendering Full Military Honors.

Pallbearers will include Abraham Tessin, Brandon Stowe, Gary Busby, Mark Busby, David Owens, Randy Alexander, Steve Waddell and Honorable Jon Dennis.  Honorable Pallbearers will be staff of Affinity Hospice, staff of Winthrop Court Assisted Living Center and all former Softball, Ping Pong and Basketball players.

Mr. Busby will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
