Our Story
Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory has a long and respected history of serving families in Summerville, Chattooga County, and the surrounding communities with dignity, compassion, and care.
Originally established as Erwin Funeral Home in 1956 by Clyde Erwin, the business quickly became a trusted name in funeral service. A few years later, Mr. Erwin was joined by Durward L. Petitt, and the name was changed to Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home, reflecting their partnership and shared commitment to the community.
Following Mr. Erwin’s passing in 1969, Mr. Petitt became the owner and faithfully operated and/or managed the funeral home for decades, offering compassionate care to generations of families. After Mr. Petitt’s passing in 2012, Jamey and Karen Coffman purchased the business in 2013. With great respect for its legacy, they renamed the funeral home Coffman Funeral Home-Petitt Chapel and continued its tradition of excellence while introducing modern services and a renewed personal touch. In 2025, a state-of-the-art crematory was added on site to serve the changing needs of the community. The full-service funeral home is now known as Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory.
